Africa-Press – Angola. A thousand people, including children and adults, from Ngola Luije commune, Malanje municipality, benefit from Saturday, free medical assistance and medication, within the framework of a community health fair promoted by the Theosophical Spiritist Church (ITE).

The fair, which has the involvement of 12 health technicians from Luanda, will close on Sunday and consultations on paediatrics, general medicine, high blood pressure, as well as malaria testing, blood glucose and routine vaccines are being carried out. .

According to the coordinator of the activity, Adriano Marques, malaria, schistosomiasis, high blood pressure and typhoid fever dominated the first day of consultations, in which close to 500 people were assisted.

He made it known that the commune has a high rate of malaria, which is why he advised combating water puddles and vegetation close to houses, in addition to the constant use of mosquito nets impregnated with insecticide.

On the occasion, the communal administrator of Ngola Luije, Jesus Augusto, welcomed the initiative, as it brings health services closer to the inhabitants of the administrative districts of the district, namely Mukongo, Kimbamba and Luma.

He underlined that, in order to stop the malaria rate in the commune, which is around 80 cases/day, awareness campaigns have been developed among the population, in order to avoid puddles of water and accumulation of garbage.

In turn, the prophetess of the Theosophical Spiritist Church, Suzete Francisco João, said that the health fair is part of the organisation’s social action programme, with a view to promoting primary health care.

He added that the church is planning to build a health center and a school in the Ngola Luije commune and reiterated its ongoing advocacy with government authorities, with a view to improving the living conditions of the population.

This is the second health fair that the Theosophical Spiritist Church has held in Ngola Luije, the first having taken place in 2022.

The ITE leader’s agenda also includes the delivery of basic food baskets to needy people and an audience with the provincial governor, Marcos Nhunga.
