UNITA in Cuando Cubango highlights the importance of delivering certificates to victims of armed conflicts

Africa-Press – Angola. The secretary of UNITA in Cuando Cubango, Joaquim Salhinho, praised Tuesday, the beginning of the process of delivery of death certificates to the families of the armed conflict, as it translates into the consolidation of national reconciliation among Angolans.

The politician acknowledged this during the delivery of the first 23 death certificates of the victims of the armed conflicts that took place in the country between November 11, 1975 and April 4, 2002, which took place in the conference room of the provincial government, supervised by governor of Cuando Cubango, José Martins.

As he underlined, “this act translates into what has been the practice of Angolans, at a time when the civil war left us with sad consequences, because many were buried where their relatives cannot identify them and lessons must be learned (…) .

The secretary hopes that the ongoing national reconciliation process in the country will be translated into a democratic environment between the political parties, avoiding political intolerance, for whom UNITA is firmly engaged in this task.

The governor of Cuando Cubango, José Martins, said that it is important, at this moment, to forget the then sad event and to promote the spirit of peace, forgiveness, tranquility, reconciliation, unity and love of neighbor.

He defended the need for the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren of the victims to have a peaceful and harmonious life, which would allow them to build a better future, for the realization of their dreams.

It should be noted that, in the province of Cuando Cubango, 47 families have already requested, under Law no 23/20 of 23 July, the law on the special regime and justification of deaths, the certificates of loved ones who died during political conflicts in Angola.
