Africa-Press – Angola. Kenya, with 32 long distance runners, will have the largest representation in the second edition of the International Peace Half Marathon, to be held on April 4th, in Luanda.

The information was advanced this Wednesday at a press conference by the organization of the competition, which will have a route of 21.0975 kilometers.

According to the Race Director, Adriano Nunes, among the Kenyan representatives, 22 are male and nine are female.

Ethiopia comes next with 11 athletes (three men and eight women), Uganda with five runners (men), Bahrain, Brazil, Bolivia, Uruguay, Morocco, South Africa and Namibia, who will compete with one athlete each, for a total of 55 foreigners.

Registration for foreign representatives, for the competition with a budget of 54 million Kwanzas, started this Wednesday.

The organization also announced that 400 national athletes of the three thousand expected have already been confirmed, while the registration process ends on March 15.

This second meeting with journalists, guided by the promoter of this event, Carlos Rosa, flanked by the doctor, João Mulima, also served for the organization to sign a protocol with the sponsoring companies.

The starting gun will be given near the facilities of the Port of Luanda, while the finish line will be next to the Mausoleum, on Rua Doutor António Agostinho Neto.

There will also be a family run, with a course of five kilometres.

The organization reserved as prizes for elite athletes, in both sexes, with USD six thousand for the winner, five for the second place and four thousand for the third place.

For federated national athletes, the first will receive 250 thousand Kwanzas, 50,000.00 more kzs than the second and 150,000.00 for the third to cross the goal.

Popular and disabled athletes (Paralympics) will be awarded Kz 200,000, Kz 150,000 and Kz 100,000, respectively, while veterans will be awarded Kz 150,000.

According to the organizing committee, an additional bonus of one thousand dollars will be offered to the athlete who breaks the record for the 2022 race, which is 1.03.17 for men and 1.11.52 for women.

The last edition of the Peace Half Marathon was won by Kenyan Isaac Chebuyo, with a time of 1.3.17, followed by his compatriots Leonard Langat (1.03.20) and Albert Kangogo (1.03.28), in the male class.

In female, the event was won by Ethiopian Yalemget Mekuriyaw, who clocked a time of 1:11:52, seconded by Violah Motosio (1:13:25) and Damaris Mutua (1:14.39), both from Bahrain.

The next press conference is scheduled for the 15th of March, where topics such as the arrival of foreign athletes, inspections of the course and other matters inherent to the organization of the said competition will be addressed, which aims to toast peace and national reconciliation in Angola, to be noted up on the 4th of April.
