Africa-Press – Angola. Ilídio Sipwiso was elected, Saturday (18), to the post of first secretary of the MPLA in Ondjiva, Cuanhama municipality, Cunene province, during the XI Extraordinary Communal Conference.
The politician, who replaces Portasio Muatihimuno in office, was elected with 83 votes in favor and one against, corresponding to 98.8% of the votes, in an election that had more than 100 delegates.
In his first speech, Ilídio Sipwiso said that he will prioritize complying with the guidelines outlined by the party, dialoguing with the militants for the strengthening and functioning of the action committees.
Ilidio Sipwiso informed that he will also try to monitor all the problems that affect the populations, such as drought and hunger, among other concerns, so that the government becomes aware of them in order to permanently resolve them.
At the closing act of the Conference, the coordinator of the MPLA follow-up group to the Ondjiva commune, Remígio Muafekelange, asked the elected secretary for support, to materialize the party’s guidelines.
“By taking on this challenge, greater attention must be paid to grassroots structures and maintain an open dialogue with the population, listening and identifying problems for possible solutions,” he said.
He recalled that the MPLA has 66 years of history and must maintain this spirit of humility and union, to continue working for the improvement of social conditions and well-being of citizens’ lives.
Remígio Muafekelange recognized the commitment and dedication of the outgoing secretary, during his mandate, which was demonstrated in the victory of the MPLA, in the elections of 24 August 2022.
Ondjiva is the capital of the province of Cunene and is part of the five communes of the municipality of Cuanhama.
