Africa-Press – Angola. The Minister of National Defense and Veterans of the Fatherland, João Ernesto dos Santos, is leading a delegation from his department to the United Arab Emirates, to participate, from the 20th to the 24th of this month, in the 16th edition of the International Defense Exhibition and Conference (IDEX) and at the 7th Naval Defense and Maritime Security Exhibition (NAVDEX) which started simultaneously, today, in Abu Dhabi, the political and administrative capital of the United Arab Emirates.
The press learned that the five-day events, under the high patronage of the President of the United Arab Emirates, Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, take place at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center (ADNEC) and are represented by over 1,350 companies linked to the Defense and Security sector of 65 countries.
Following the inauguration of the International Defense Exhibition and Conference (IDEX 2023) by Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the UAE Presidential Court, João Ernesto dos Santos, accompanied by the Secretary of State for Military Industry, Afonso Carlos Neto, and the Angolan ambassador to this Middle East country, Albino Malungo, visited several pavilions of companies that are presenting recent products and technologies in the defense industry.
For Tuesday, the minister and the accompanying delegation have scheduled several other meetings with companies that offer the opportunity to establish partnerships with Angola.
IDEX-2023 is one of the most significant defense exhibitions in the world and the largest in the Middle East region. It coincides with the 30th anniversary of the event’s pioneering launch in 1993.
The participation of companies in this year’s event represents an increase of 10% in relation to the previous session and an increase of 200% over the first edition.
Furthermore, the number of national pavilions increased to 41, marking a 17% growth rate compared to the previous edition. The conference takes place under the central theme: “Adaptation, Exploration, Transformation: Reimagining Security, Society and the Human Experience in an era of Disruption”.
It includes heated debates in the various panels with the participation of leaders, decision-makers, experts and international specialists. At the Naval Defense and Maritime Security Exhibition (NAVDEX) several ships from seven countries, namely Pakistan, Bahrain, United Kingdom, Italy, China, India and the United Arab Emirates, are on display.
