Africa-Press – Angola. The curtain fell, tonight, on the 2023 edition of the Luanda Carnival, which once again shook Nova Marginal, a year after the lifting of restrictions imposed to face the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Monday parade, attended by the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, and the First Lady, Ana Dias Lourenço, drew hundreds of thousands of revelers from various areas of the Angolan capital.
The Entrudo party, which brought together 13 carnival groups from Class A, had a bit of everything: light, color, emotion and a lot of adrenaline on the track and in the stands.
Lasting nearly five and a half hours, the parade was marked by the resurgence of Dizanda, a traditional Entrudo genre, which, along with Cidrália, has long ceased to be danced in the country’s capital.
Another high point was the emergence, for the first time, of the sambalage dance, which broke the borders of the municipality of Quiçama to impose itself in this party, considered the greatest popular manifestation in Angola.
The 2023 Carnival parade was full of good attractions, from the groups’ clothing, to the plots and choreographies, which transformed Nova Marginal into a true stage for party and culture.
Children, teenagers and thousands of adults joined in a clear atmosphere of revelry, “spiced” by semba, kazukuta, cabecinha and sambalage.
Now, with the curtain falling, attention will be turned to Wednesday, the day dedicated to the announcement of the winners of the three categories (Class A, B and Children).
Meanwhile, before the so-called Mabangas Wednesday, revelers will be able to enjoy, this Tuesday, the so-called Street Carnival, which returns to the Entrudo organization calendar several decades later.
The Street Carnival reappears at a time when the country seeks to transform this mega cultural event into an industry, that is, a marketing product.
In fact, Entrudo de Luanda is rich in different sectors, from dances to the creativity of revelers, but it has not yet established itself as a sales product.
In addition to being a cultural celebration, Carnival is also a festivity with weight to leverage business and even the family income of Angolans.
It is, without a doubt, one of the cultural expressions to be taken into account, by those entitled to it, who should continue to invest in this cultural asset, to spread the national culture and attract tourists to the country.
This is a festival that has been celebrated in Angola for 48 years, in a spontaneous, free and creative way. Carnival is the feast of the people, which resist all winds, times and changes, knowing a great capacity for adaptation and survival.
Carnival is the time when revelers from various parts of the country take to the streets to dance and play this popular festival, each dressed in their own way.
The event is an opportunity for companies from different segments to stand out and get closer to the public, in a creative and unusual way, with thematic marketing strategies and promotional actions.
It is a case to say that, with the dismantling of the scenery on the Nova Marginal lane, it is expected that the neighborhoods will receive, on Tuesday, Carnival in the streets, to the sound of semba, kabetula, kazukuta, dizanda, sambalage and other traditional Luanda dance genres.
