Africa-Press – Angola. Academics in Malanje highlighted Wednesday, in this city, the importance of the second Population Census, with a view to measuring the real number of the population, redefining public policies and improving the quality of life of citizens.

Interviewed about the census process, scheduled for 2024, university professors stated that periodic carrying out of the same is essential, in order to improve information regarding demographic evolution so that, from then on, government authorities can set priorities.

According to the History of Angola teacher, Assunção Junqueira, the perception of population density and its distribution by sex and age is crucial, as it helps to identify, for example, the number of unemployed citizens.

With these data, he added, the government will be able to stimulate actions that contribute to the promotion of employability.

In line with this, the teacher of Pedagogy, Mariana Diniz, described the Census as a “barometer” to combat social inequalities and an instrument that facilitates the administration of public affairs, which is why she called for citizen participation.

In turn, Nadape Jorge, who is also a professor, said that after about 10 years since the first post-independence Census was carried out, it is urgent to update the data, but defended a prior work to raise awareness of the populations, especially in remote areas, for the your success.

Meanwhile, the Government is going to carry out, from the 19th of July next, the Pilot Census of Population and Housing, one year before the General Population Census.

The first General Census of Population and Housing in Angola was carried out in 2014, with a result of 25 million 789 thousand 024 inhabitants.

Before independence, there was a similar survey by the colonial authorities in 1970, in which 5.6 million people were registered.
