Africa-Press – Angola. The national coach, Josep Clarós, carried out, this Wednesday, the last evaluation of the pre-selection aiming to elect the 12 definitive athletes for the fifth and last Qualification Window (African zone) for the 2023 World Cup, in Asia.

For the competition, which starts on Friday, at the Kilamba Multipurpose pavilion, in Luanda, the coach will choose the twelve definitive players on Thursday.

Already with the integration of athletes from the diaspora, since Monday, the Spaniard carried out another training session, behind closed doors, with the 17 pre-summoned, but with 15 minutes reserved for the press.

On the occasion, he told that the training would be based on framing the players with little time working with the group, so that they become aware of the plan for the undertaking.

The conversation with the new arrivals, he said, was aimed at making everyone on the same level in terms of ideas, group chemistry and defensive and offensive aspects.

Josep Clarós referred that the 17 players offer conditions to be part of the definitive group and that, therefore, the return can happen at any time, such as on the occasion of Afrobasket, in June, or at the Asian World Cup, in case of qualification.

Angola saw itself reduced, due to injury, to winger Leonel Paulo, from Sangalhos de Portugal (1.96 meters), from winger Silvio Sousa (2.06 meters), from Chorale Roame de França, and from pole Jilson Bango (2.08 meters), from Basketball Lowen Braunschweig, from the first division of Germany.

Bruno Fernando is also out of the continental competition, due to calendar reasons in the North American Basketball League (NBA).

Here are the 17 members of the pre-selection:

Childe Dundão, Gerson Domingos, Dimitri Maconda and Manuel Sebastião (base), Gerson Gonçalves “Lukeny”, Kenneth Manuel and Francisco Gomes (base wing).

Also part of the group are António Monteiro, Jerónimo Luís, Geovani Kibinga and Milton Valente (wingers), João Fernandes, Kevin Albino and Cléusio Castro (wingers), Teotónio Dó, Kevyn Kokila and Aldemiro João (poles).

Of the five competitors, apart from Angola, only Uganda, the opening opponent, arrives on Thursday.
