Africa-Press – Angola. The Government of Japan made available, this Friday, US$300,354 to support the demining project in Cuanza Sul province.

The donation, part of the Assistance to Community Projects and Human Security (APC) program of the Embassy of Japan in Angola, aims to support the demining activity of an area of ​​640,500 square meters, in the said province, to be implemented by the National NGO, Development of Anti-Personnel Mine Clearance Products (APOPO),

The project aims to maximize the potential in the agricultural sector of the said province and guarantee the improvement of the working conditions of peasants who dedicate themselves to family farming.

On the same occasion, a school bus was also donated to the Ferraz Bomboko first cycle secondary school, in the municipality of Huambo, province with the same name.

At the signing of the agreement, the Japanese ambassador to Angola, Suzuki Toru, said that his country’s government will continue to support Angola in the fight against mine clearance.

“The Government of Japan supports and will continue to support Angola to be free of projected anti-personnel mines by 2025 and is focused on cooperation in the field of human security in Angola”, he said.

The diplomat added that the bus donation project is the first in Angola and he hopes it will make a significant contribution to solving the children’s problem.

In turn, the director of the first cycle of secondary school Ferraz Bomboko, Francisco Neto Augusto, underlined that the school bus will allow mobility and facilitated access to school for more than eight hundred children.

“The gesture is a demonstration of the high sense of solidarity of the Government of Japan and its interest in helping to solve the problems of other nations, as well as in valuing human life”, he said.

The Japanese Government has supported, since 1990, more than 74 projects in the areas of demining, agriculture, health and education through the Assistance Program for Community Projects and Human Security.
