Africa-Press – Angola. Two large ravines located in the municipality of Saurimo, Lunda Sul, estimated at 1 billion kwanzas each, have already started to be stopped since Saturday, whose act was witnessed by the Minister of Public Works and Territorial Planning, Carlos Santos.

These are the ravines located in the neighborhoods of Kamahundo and Nzangi, seven to 25 meters deep and 1,480 to 628 meters long.

Intervention in the two gullies, considered emerging, could take a year, taking into account their size.

Speaking to the press, the national director of Engineering Works of the Ministry of Public Works and Land Planning, Lucas Pedro, said that the intervention in the ravines is part of the containment and stabilization program that the institution has in its portfolio.

He added that the intervention of the ravines responds to constant requests from the local government, which wants to see the problem resolved and plan the construction of new social infrastructures in the area.

Lucas Pedros explained that the main intervention to be carried out is the improvement of the path for river water, as well as establishing normal circulation in the areas adjacent to the ravines.

The official also admitted that the ravines are putting the lives of populations at risk, as well as the infrastructure built by the Government, now close to them (ravines).

As for the national road 230 (EN/230), he said that the works had taken place at a good pace, after overcoming all the constraints that occurred in some lots.

According to the person in charge, the delivery of the works is scheduled for August of the same year.

For his part, the vice-governor for technical service and infrastructure in Lunda Sul, Cláudio Pemessa, said that the intervention in the ravines will allow greater security for citizens residing in the districts, in addition to launching new works with a social impact.

The official guaranteed that the Government will monitor the works, down to the millimeter, rigorously inspecting all the details so that there is a quality work at the end of the contract.

The province of Lunda Sul has 54 ravines, of which 11 are of greater concern, as they are close to populations, roads, water treatment plants and other public buildings.
