Africa-Press – Angola. Angolan writer John Bellas is strengthening relations in the cultural field with the Cuban Book Institute for the translation into Spanish of Angolan books written in Portuguese.

To this end, the Angolan author who participates since, Monday, in Havana, capital of the Republic of Cuba, in the Thirty-First Edition of the International Book Fair, with the aim of disseminating national literature across borders, held a meeting with the president of the Cuban Book Institute, Juan Rodríguez Cabrera.

According to a press release, for this year, the works selected for translation include the author’s three novels about Njinga Mbande.

Still in the framework of the dissemination of literature, the writer offered the Angolan embassy in the Republic of Cuba a set of books by Angolan writers.

The gesture, according to a note, is from the Union of Angolan Writers (UEA) and the National Library of Angola, with a view to internationalizing Angolan literature and establishing exchanges with other authors.

The books donated are by the writers Elsa Bárber, Adriano Botelho de Vasconcelos, David Capelenguela, Lopito Feijó, Ngonguita Diogo, Marta Santos, António Pompílio, Akiz Neto, Jofre Rocha, Kudijimbe Ananaz and Ondjaki.

John Bellas, who is also director of Tourism and Culture, in the municipality of Talatona, in Luanda, said that the translations could cover books by writers residing in the municipality of Talatona, with the aim of stimulating the habit of reading among youth and students. of that constituency.

According to the note, it is expected that the Angolan writer will also meet with the president of the Union of Cuban Writers and Artists (UNEAC), to exchange experiences in the cultural sphere.
