Caraculo Photovoltaic Plant goes into operation this quarter

Africa-Press – Angola. The Photovoltaic Power Station in Caraculo, Namibe, has a physical completion level of 90%, in the first phase, with expected start-up in this first quarter.

In the first phase of the project, a production capacity of 25 megawatts of clean energy is expected, according to the chairman of the Board of Directors of Sonangol, Gaspar Martins, who was speaking during the presentation of the (provisional) accounts for the year 2022.

Then another 25 megawatts will be added, in the second phase of the project, according to Gaspar Martins.

Like the Caraculo project, Sonangol is also implementing another in the Quilemba region, Huila province, with the multinational TotalEnergies, with the forecast of initially producing 35 megawatts to later add the equivalent to reach 80 megawatts of power.

The national oil company, likewise, is also working with the German group Gauff and Joint in the construction and operation of a plant for green hydrogen and derivatives, a project located next to the Oceanic Terminal of Barra do Dande, with the expected production of 280 thousand tons, per year, as soon as the initiative comes into operation.

In 2022, Sonangol defined its energy transition strategy for the period 2022-2030, based on the use of hydrocarbons as a source of financing the process, with gas as a transitional energy source for renewable energies.
