Africa-Press – Angola. Sporting do Lubango praised today, Thursday, in this city, its athlete Massogi Fátima Canhango, for the bronze medal won at the African Gymnastics Championship, in the specialty of individual tambling.
The trambling gymnastics championship took place from the 24th to the 27th of February, in the city of Marrakech, Kingdom of Morocco, in a competition in which six more national athletes participated, in which only Sporting do Lubango managed to reach the podium.
Reacting to the athlete’s achievement, club president Rui Telles said it was a title that “comes in handy”, although it is not the first medal at African level, as the gallery displays another, silver, won three years ago for an old asset that is now in Petro de Luanda.
He referred that Massogi, 20 years old, in addition to being an athlete, is also the club’s female coach for the modality and has passed on all her experience to the new generation.
Rui Telles stressed that the gymnast was summoned because she won a zone and worked 20 days in Luanda in good conditions to improve her performance and her indices grew, proof of that is the result she brought to the country.
“It was the only medal for the Angolan team, which gives us great satisfaction for our work and commitment, gives us strength to continue. It is also a way of trying to captivate us more”, she continued.
He highlighted that they are still faced with a lack of sports material, as they have mattresses, but they cause more injuries than anything else, but they want to reconcile forces with the provincial government in order to improve the training conditions of the athletes and thus be able to represent with dignity. the selection.
He added that for the club it is more important to invest in individual sports, as it is currently easier to get medals individually and Huíla has the potential to invest more in individual sports.
In the same vein, the president of the Provincial Association of Individual Sports, Juka Fernandes, said it is an added value for Angola and for the club that has been working hard for the growth of the sport in the province.
He reinforced that within the competition, the athletes had to change a lot in their specialties and had to readapt themselves in terms of jumping to boxing and to the plinth, as tambling is one thing and making movements on apparatus is another thing.
He made it known that Huíla no longer has specific material for this athlete’s level, but will still start preparing locally for the modality’s world cup scheduled for November of the current year in Birmingham, England.
“We don’t have a track, nor a carpet in conditions, we lack specific materials, such as horses, plinth, mini-trampolines and trampolines”, he detailed.
In turn, the director of the Provincial Office for Culture, Youth Tourism and Sports Osvaldo Lunda, said he was working with the club and the Individual Sports Association to honor the athlete as soon as she is in the province.
“Everything is being prepared, in principle we will receive her at the airport and have a meeting with the governor. Huíla has brightened with many national and international podiums and if we continue like this we will reap the rewards of the bet made on sport”, she said.
The athlete is already in Luanda and will arrive in Huíla in the coming days.
