Africa-Press – Angola. The Governments of Angola and Japan initialed, Wednesday, in Luanda, the Agreement by Exchange of Notes regarding the Concession of Non-Refundable Assistance in the field of Demining, “Programme for Economic and Social Development”.

The signatories of the legal instrument were the Secretary of State for International Cooperation and Angolan Communities of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Domingos Vieira Lopes, and on the Japanese side, the Japanese ambassador to Angola, Suzuki Toru.

Apart from the demining process in the national territory, the Angolan Government has joined efforts to guarantee a safe environment, especially in rural areas where mines and other explosive devices are still planted, due to the period of war in the country, which caused the death of thousands of citizens.

As part of the diversification of the Angolan economy, the said Agreement ensures funding to facilitate socio-economic activities in the agricultural field, in addition to improving the living conditions of the population.

Cooperation between Angola and Japan has been based on various social areas, namely health, education, higher education, agriculture, energy and water, mine clearance and other sectors.
