Africa-Press – Angola. Sixty-two citizens with financial difficulties benefited from free legal assistance and sponsorship during the year 2022, in the province of Uíge, 13 less compared to the year 2021, said Monday, the provincial delegate of the Bar Association of Angola (OAA), Lando Marcelo.

Of this total, 40 are de facto union cases, four labor, eight civil, four criminal and six different processes.

Regarding the balance of activities carried out in 2022, Lando Marcelo explained that only four processes were processed, while the other 58 are awaiting a response from the Provincial Court of Uíge.

Due to the lack of legal culture and lack of knowledge of the lawyer’s role in society, he appealed to the population to look for the Angolan Bar Association in Uíge to benefit from legal assistance and sponsorship.

The Order of Lawyers in Uíge provides legal assistance to citizens with financial difficulties, appointing a lawyer to follow up with the courts.

Regarding the difficulties encountered in carrying out the activity, he pointed out access to the institutions that administer the processes, such as the Criminal Investigation Service (SIC), the Attorney General’s Office, courts and districts.

For the year 2023, Lando Marcelo explained that the OAA in Uíge has scheduled legal consultations, lectures, seminars and other initiatives.

In Uíge province, the Angolan Bar Association controls 117 lawyers, 29 with permanent certificates and 88 trainee lawyers, having considered it insufficient to serve the population of the 16 locations in the region.
