Africa-Press – Angola. The President of Slovenia, Natasa Pirc Musar, said in Doha, Qatar, that Angola and her country are experiencing an era of “very positive signs” regarding bilateral cooperation.

The Slovenian stateswoman was speaking to the press after a meeting with the Vice-President of Angola, Esperança da Costa, at her request, in which, among other issues, Climate Change, Pollution, Green Energy and Renewable Energy were addressed.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the work of the 5th United Nations Conference on Least Developed Countries, which takes place between 5 and 9 March, in the capital of Qatar, Doha.

Natasa Pirc Musar emphasized the fact that the Vice-President of Angola was elected approximately six months ago, and, in her case, about two months ago.

“This is a very positive sign that marks an era of cooperation, and, in the future, we will discuss issues around gender equality”, he said.

She highlighted the fact that in 32 years of independence she was the first woman to head the Slovenian state.

On the other hand, he declared that Slovenia is, at the moment, very focused on Climate Change, and it is its intention to do an intense work for the reduction of pollution, especially in the Least Developed Countries.

“We are working on Green Energy and Renewable Energy projects, and the Vice-President conveyed how much Angola is being affected by Climate Change”, said Natasa Pirc Musar.

According to the stateswoman, the European Union is also currently suffering from Climate Change, from forest fires, and it seems that each country works against that phenomenon in order to have a healthier planet.

He recalled that already at the time when Slovenia was part of Yugoslavia, it had already established strong bilateral relations, and beyond, with countries on the African continent, being therefore condemned to work together.

He informed that the European Union, of which his country is a member, is working on a program aimed at vulnerability, with a view to obtaining financing for the Least Developed Countries to overcome their problems.

During his stay in Doha, in addition to courtesy meetings on Sunday with the presidents of Malawi, Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera, and Zambia, Hakainde Hichilema, Esperança da Costa granted audiences to the director general of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the Deputy Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency.

He did so, on the same day, with the secretary general of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and with the director of the Brazilian Cooperation Agency.

On Saturday, he received in audience the UN secretary general’s special adviser on African issues, and the deputy director general of UNESCO.

The Vice President of the Republic of Angola is in Doha representing the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, at the 5th United Nations Conference on Least Developed Countries.

Speaking on Sunday, on the first day of the event, Esperança da Costa said that the Angolan Government is committed to the implementation of the Doha Action Programme, concerning the 46 countries listed by the UN as least developed (33 from Africa, 12 from Asia and Pacific, and one from the Caribbean), which represent 12% of the world’s population.
