Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan experience of promoting a culture of peace, since 2002, will be one of the strengths that the high-level Angolan delegation will present during the 146th Assembly of the Interparliamentary Union (UIP), to be held from 11 to 15 June in Manama , Kingdom of Bahrain.
According to the President of the National Assembly (AN), Carolina Cerqueira, who will head the delegation to the Forum, the same event will also address the advances registered in the country from the political, social and economic point of view, which represent an important value for peaceful coexistence.
In relation to this theme, he also highlighted education for peace and the fact that Angola, at the moment, occupies an important place in the Central African sub-region, through the policy of mediation and promotion of peace.
Other topics such as those related to women’s rights, social justice, gender opportunity and cybercrime, as well as the conflict in Ukraine will also be addressed in this 146th IPU General Assembly.
With the expected presence of 178 national parliaments, as well as 12 regional assemblies, the delegation will also be made up of deputies from the MPLA and UNITA, based on representativeness and proportionality.
The parliamentary leader expressed her satisfaction with the fact that the Angolan delegation was made up mostly of women, on the eve of March 8, which marks an appeal for their participation in the various sectors, bringing a strong message to parliaments around the world.
According to Carolina Cerqueira, the event will also discuss issues related to the defense of the environment, as this is an aspect on the world agenda.
“We think that the objective we want to achieve, in the sense of a balance between environmental issues and national policies, has no borders, so this issue is on the agendas of governments, parliaments and major international forums”, he argued.
The slogan of the event will be “Ecological Parliaments”, with total mobilization to act in a participatory manner to resolve the difficulties and problems caused by natural disasters.
Promotion of the country’s image
According to the President of the Angolan Parliament, Carolina Cerqueira, Angola will take advantage of her stay in Manama to market the country, through a stand where the reasons will be presented for the country to be able to host, in October this year, the 147th UIP General Assembly, to be held in Luanda.
He adds that the stand will show how hospitable the country is, as well as the advances registered from the social, economic and political point of view, but also the difficulties with which it still struggles.
At this event to take place in the Angolan capital, the central theme will be “Climate Changes and its effects on people’s lives” and over a thousand parliamentarians are expected.
Hence, during the stay of the Angolan delegation in Bahrain, the agreement will be initialed in which it undertakes to hold the event, which for the first time takes place in a Portuguese-speaking country.
