Africa-Press – Angola. The MPLA reaffirmed, this Wednesday, International Women’s Day, the fight against prejudice against women, with a view to strengthening the process of representation of Angolan women in political life and in other sectors, as an essential criterion for democratic construction from the country.
According to a Declaration alluding to the date, there is a need for greater female involvement and representation at all levels and areas of political, administrative, business and professional power, taking into account merit and competence.
To this end, says the document, the ruling party urges Angolans to work to position Angola among the best countries in Africa, in terms of gender equality.
Stresses that Angola must evolve towards a model of society that values and supports, above all, the choices of young women, guaranteeing their full participation in the process of growth and development.
The Political Bureau of the Central Committee calls for reflection on the importance of women in society, fundamentally with a view to supporting all female mobilization actions to combat inequalities, as well as guaranteeing the approval and application of a legal framework that penalizes strongly gender-based violence.
He calls for a celebration that characterizes Angolans and “that make their life stories a universe of struggles and conquests for a fairer and more balanced world”.
It congratulates all women in the world, especially Angolan women, hoping that the spirit that guided the consecration of this day will continue to be present in the struggle of women for gender equality and equal socio-professional opportunities.
Officially instituted by the United Nations in the 1970s, International Women’s Day contains a symbolism that the history of humanity will never forget, as the initial meaning of its struggle, marked by protests for better working conditions, clarifies the note.
