João Lourenço announces the construction of an oncology hospital

Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, announced this Wednesday the construction, in Luanda, of a large hospital unit, for the treatment of oncological diseases.

The announcement was made in the city of Lubango, Huíla province, after the Head of State reopened the Irene Neto Maternity, a unit with 122 beds.

“We cannot do everything at once”, stated the Angolan President, having assured that the “Executive will start the construction of a large oncological hospital in Luanda”.

João Lourenço stated, on the occasion, that the construction of oncological hospitals in other parts of the country will be a second step, “what we can take as a given (…) is the construction of this large oncological hospital in the city of Luanda” , he underlined.

He said that due to the costs of an oncological hospital, the Executive will not build one in each province, having added that the focus will be on building regional oncological hospitals.

As for the impact that the reopening of the Maternidade Irene Neto could have on the reproductive health of women in the south-central region of the country, he said that it will be great, taking into account the advantages of the hospital unit.

Ladies, continued the President of the Republic, will have safer deliveries and in better hygiene conditions. “That’s what we intend to do. Continue to assist our populations in a dignified manner, and in this specific case, women”, he expressed.

The Head of Executive Power highlighted the fact that the Lubango Maternity Hospital, Irene Neto, was reopened on a special day, the 8th of March, International Women’s Day, which is celebrated yesterday.

Recovery of National Road 105

On the recovery of National Road 105, the route that connects Huíla to the north of the country, the Angolan statesman assured that it will be rehabilitated.

He recognized that the current situation of the road has created great constraints for those who travel along it, hence the decision to rehabilitate this section that we consider important, as are all national roads.

Regarding the extension, to Huíla, of the Cunene river water project, President João Lourenço said it was one of the concerns of the Executive, having informed that the process is in the funding mobilization phase and that at any moment the works will start .

“We know that the city (of Lubango) is growing. The population has increased considerably and for this reason the demand for water is growing”, noted the Head of the Executive Power, for whom the construction of a water supply system aimed at for population growth.
