Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço, held, this Saturday, in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, a courtesy meeting with the President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheik Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
João Lourenço visited Abu Dhabi this Saturday on his way to Tokyo (Japan), informs, in a note, the Secretariat of the President of the Republic for Institutional Communication and Press Affairs.
The two Heads of State, at the meeting, assessed the state of bilateral relations and opportunities for future collaboration in areas such as investment, trade, renewable energies and food security, for the benefit of both countries and peoples.
The Presidents of Angola and the United Arab Emirates also exchanged views on the COP28 Climate Summit, to be held next December in Dubai, and underlined the importance of each country working towards sustainability, climate action and environmental protection.
Diplomatic relations between Angola and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) were established on 11 December 1997, with the Angolan diplomatic representation in Abu Dhabi being opened on 21 September 2008, while that of the UAE in Luanda was opened on 1 August 2016.
The two countries enjoy active economic cooperation. Bilateral trade reached US$1.9 million in June 2020, and trade between the two has increased since 2004, involving a wide range of goods and raw materials, such as ornamental stones, diamonds, oil and other minerals.
Non-oil trade between the two countries reached US$1.6 billion at the end of 2017, up 38 percent from US$1.15 billion in 2016.
