Africa-Press – Angola. The deputy prime minister of Bahrain, Skikh Khslid Alkhalifa, highlighted this Saturday in Manama, capital of the Kingdom of Bahrain, the need to promote, defend and encourage policies aimed at women’s rights, world peace and security.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 146th General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IUP), taking place in Manama until the 15th, he mentioned the promotion of political freedoms, democracy and civil rights, as elements for development of societies.
Skikh Khslid Alkhalifa also highlighted the fight against religious and political fanaticism, as well as terrorism, as they jeopardize the social well-being of the population.
The official also pointed out the need to promote education, the culture of pasz, tolerance and prosperity for the harmonious development of communities and nations.
For his part, the UN secretary general, António Guterres, in a message transmitted by video conference, highlighted the need to protect the fundamental freedoms of citizens, particularly women.
António Guterres stated that the active and effective participation of the population in decision-making aimed at social well-being must be ensured.
During the 146th General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, parliamentarians will analyze the organization’s strategies on climate change, accountability at all levels, as well as the transformation of speeches into actions to combat climate change.
The approach also includes strengthening climate legislation to reduce emissions and support for a clean energy transition.
The Inter-Parliamentary Union is made up of 178 national parliaments and 12 regional assemblies. It is currently the main parliamentary interlocutor of the United Nations.
