Africa-Press – Angola. The European Union (EU) intends to participate more intensely in the Project to Support the Strengthening of the National Asset Recovery System (Pro React) in Angola.
Pro React is an initiative supported by the European Union, in the context of supporting economic governance and more specifically in supporting the Asset Recovery System, according to the representative of the EU ambassador in Angola.
Paulo Simões intervened in the course on criminal investigation of money laundering, promoted from the 13th to the 15th of the current month, in Luanda, by the Attorney General’s Office (PGR), Criminal Investigation Service (SIC), Courts and the United Nations on Drugs and Crime (UNDC) in Angola.
According to the representative, the EU intends to multiply the available resources, taking into account the capital importance of this process for the country and for Angolan society.
“It is a commitment assumed by the European Union, to join efforts with the Angolan authorities, in order to design a framework of coordinated and lasting initiatives”, he said.
He informed that a team of experts works in Angola, in a field mission for the preparation of the sectorial diagnosis that should assume the intervention proposal.
For the representative, the full current criminal theme linked to corruption and money laundering, assumed by the national authorities as political priorities, has contributed to the significant improvement of the situation of justice in Angola.
“We still have a lot of work. One of the combat fronts is precisely the criminal investigation, in particular on money laundering”, said Paulo Simões.
The official hoped that the human and institutional training actions carried out in this context would, in fact, bring important results with a relevant and effective impact on the functioning of justice institutions, in order to respond to the needs identified in the system.
