Africa-Press – Angola. The Kenyan Isaac Chebuyo and the Ugandan Moses Kibet are the favorites to win the 2nd edition of the International Peace Half Marathon, to be held on April 4th, in Luanda, with the participation of 664 long distance runners, of both sexes.
Chebuyo, winner of the first edition, with a time of 1h:03min.17secs, will have competition from the Ugandan debutant, Moses Kibet, whose record is 1:00.59, beaten in 2019 at the Half Marathon in Praha, Czech Republic.
Presented this Wednesday, in a press conference, the national favorites are Avelino Sanganhale, representative of the Okulupuca group, and António Teko, of the Bichos do Mato team.
Considered revelation athletes, both stood out in the Lisbon Half Marathon, on the last 12th. Avelino Sanganhale was in 24th place, with a time of 1:05.27, while António Teko finished 27th, with 1:05.31, in a universe of 70 long distance runners.
In the women’s class, favoritism falls to the Ethiopian, Birtukan Workineh Belay, with a mark of 1:09.11, obtained at the Getafe Half Marathon (Spain) in January 2022.
In this sector, the Brazilian Maria Moraes (1:17.45) and the Bolivian Salome Gutierrez (1:07.10) also stand out.
Organized by CRDS Eventos, to salute the 21st year of peace, to be celebrated on the day of the competition, April 4th, there are 664 competitors registered among elite, federated and popular athletes.
Among the elite long distance runners, 48 foreigners from Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda, Bahrain, Bolivia, Uruguay, Brazil and the United States and another 10 Angolans stand out.
The starting gun will take place at the Diamante hotel. The 21.0975 km run will pass through Rua das Kipakas, Avenida 4 de Fevereiro, Avenida Mortala Mohamed, Farol Velho da Ilha de Luanda, Avenida Agostinho Neto (Chicala) and ends at Praça da República (Mausoleu).
