Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan President, João Lourenço, said this Wednesday that Angola continues to work with its international partners, for the immediate search for a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine.
Speaking to a Japanese newspaper, at the end of his working visit to Japan, the Head of State referred that Angola defends the path of dialogue to reach peace.
By the way, he said that it is necessary to adopt a solution that does not threaten international peace and security, stressing that Angola is in favor of a ceasefire.
“We condemn the war and work, together with other international partners, to quickly reach a ceasefire and start negotiations, to achieve a lasting peace, not only for Europe, but for the world,” he said.
In his opinion, the conflict between Russia and Ukraine ends up reaching the entire planet, taking into account that it created the biggest humanitarian crisis after World War II, and a major food and energy crisis.
The conflict has been going on since February 24, 2022, the date on which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a “special military operation” in the east of that country.
According to several international organizations, the war has already generated, in more than a year, tens of thousands of deaths, millions of refugees and internally displaced people, bombed cities, in addition to a collapsing economy in Ukraine.
According to the Angolan Head of State, this Russian-Ukrainian conflict also affects other States, such as Angola, from the point of view of the cost of imported food.
“Angola, although it is a producer of food, imports a good part, especially commodities, wheat and other cereals which, when imported, currently come above the price practiced before the beginning of the conflict”, he lamented.
In another field, the Statesman spoke of Angolan diplomacy, which he considered very dynamic, used for the construction of peace and world security.
