Africa-Press – Angola. The District Court of Lubango, in Huíla province, postponed, without date, the trial of the former head of the provincial department of Public Health and Endemic Diseases Control, Hélio Chiangalala, accused by the Public Ministry of embezzlement, forgery of documents and money laundering .
The first session of the hearing for discussion and judgment of the case registered under No. 910/2021-C, in which José Hélio Gabriel Chiangalala, former head of the Public Health and Endemic Diseases Control Department of the Provincial Health Office of Huíla, is the main defendant , had been scheduled for this week.
For reasons still unknown, the Court of the Comarca of Lubango postponed the judgment of the case, which is also listed by a Statics technician from the same institution.
Hélio Chiangalala’s lawyer, Domingos Quito Fernandes, said that despite not knowing the reasons for the postponement of the first hearing session, he hopes that the court really knows how to administer justice on behalf of the people.
He declared that his constituent still enjoys the principle of the presumption of innocence, because the accusation is only a probability judgment and they will only be certain after the sentence becomes final.
The head of the provincial department of Public Health and Control of Endemic Diseases in Huíla was arrested on January 21, 2021, accused of the crimes of document forgery, embezzlement and money laundering, during his two-year consulate.
José Hélio Chiangalala is being accused of having allegedly embezzled three million kwanzas, out of a total of 28 million, which were intended to pay for the training of statistics technicians in that department.
