Africa-Press – Angola. The National Assembly (AN) proceeds, Friday (17), to discuss and vote on the Draft Resolution that approves the Request for Authorization from the President of the Republic on the sending of a military peace contingent to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC ).

This is the Request for Authorization from the President of the Republic, as Commander-in-Chief of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA), on the deployment of a Military Contingent of the Support and Peacekeeping Operations Component in the Eastern Region of the DRC.

Discussion and voting will take place during the 5th Extraordinary Plenary Meeting of the 1st Legislative Session of the V Legislature of the National Assembly (AN).

The AN’s specialized commissions, due to the matter, approved, Wednesday, the Joint Opinion Report of the referred Draft Resolution.

The Diploma aims to ensure the cantonment process of the military forces of the M23, in the East of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

In general terms, the objective of the Angolan mission will be to adopt the joint general plan for the resolution of the crisis in the East of the DRC, accelerate the effective implementation of the Luanda roadmap, in coordination with the Nairobi process, for the promotion of security in the eastern region of the DRC and the normalization of political and diplomatic relations with the Republic of Rwanda.

The Angolan contingent, which according to the work commissions should remain in that country for 12 months, will be made up of a battalion of the FAA and respective components, as well as financial resources estimated at AOA 11,266 million and 872,000 kwanzas, which will have to be reallocated within the budget of the Defense and Security sector.
