Africa-Press – Angola. The National Assembly (AN) unanimously approved this Friday the sending of a military contingent from the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA) to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), within the framework of peacekeeping and support operations. in the eastern region of that country.

The approval of the Angolan Parliament responds to an Authorization Request from the President of the Republic, as Commander-in-Chief of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA), on sending the peacekeeping force to the neighboring DRC.

During the 5th Extraordinary Plenary Session of the 1st Legislative Session of the 5th Legislature, which had a single point, the deputies were in favor, with no objections or votes against.

In presenting the document, on behalf of the proponent, the Minister of State and Head of the Military House of the President of the Republic, Francisco Pereira Furtado, highlighted the nature of the mission that also emanates from the international commitments assumed by the country.

Francisco Pereira Furtado made it known that, of the amount to be used in the mission (11 billion, 266 million and 872 thousand kwanzas), 4 billion, 638 million are already available, in an operation that will last 12 months.

In the reading of the voting declaration, UNITA, through the deputy Jorge Matias da Cruz, referred that the party manifested itself in favor of the fact that it considers that peace is an invaluable good and that it must be defended.

Fernando Diniz, from the PHA, highlighted the duty of fulfilling solidarity missions, as well as sharing experience with the other nations of the continent for the promotion of peace and stability.

The PRS/FNLA Mixed Parliamentary Group adopted the same position, which, via deputy Benedito Daniel, argued that instability in the DRC is also a negative factor for Angola.

When taking the floor, the president of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira, wished the military contingent success in the peacekeeping mission in eastern DRC, recommending that they stand out with discipline and a high sense of mission in the defense of the fundamental rights and security of the civilian population, in particular children, girls and women, the main victims of a conflict.

“Crimes against defenseless populations have already caused more than ten million victims, which is why we believe that Angola’s role in the demilitarization and peace of the Central African sub-region is important”, he declared.

The diploma aims to ensure the cantonment process of the military forces of the M23, in the East of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
