Africa-Press – Angola. More than 400 prisoners, currently sentenced in Yabi, Civil and Cacongo prisons, will benefit from professional technical training through the National Institute of Employment and Professional Training of Cabinda (INEFOP).
The fact was advanced, Monday, by the provincial director of Prison Services in Cabinda, Gomes de Oliveira, during the commemorative act of the 44th anniversary of the creation of these services assigned to the Ministry of the Interior, held at the Yabi Penitentiary, where he said that the board is already working towards an agreement with INEFOP in Cabinda towards the technical and professional training of the 476 inmates, mostly young men.
He indicated that INEFOP will set up arts and crafts workshops, with emphasis on carpentry, metalwork, pastry, cutting and sewing, the date of which has not been announced.
He also pointed out as a concern, in prisons, the practice of agriculture with the support of technicians from the provincial secretariat of this sector to improve the transmission of knowledge about cultivation techniques and land treatment, to ensure positive results in the harvest and contribute to the improvement of self-sufficiency of the inmates’ diet.
That official also took the opportunity to lament the current situation regarding method and medication assistance that requires improvements, with its own unit to assist inmates, pharmacy services and inpatient areas.
Cabinda currently has 476 inmates, distributed across three penitentiary units, the Civil Prison, Cacongo and Yabi Penitentiary, the largest in the province.
