Africa-Press – Angola. The vice-president of the MPLA, Luísa Damião, highlighted the importance of preserving the peace, conquered 21 years ago, for the country to remain on the path of social and economic development.
The vice-president, who was speaking about the celebration of the 21st anniversary of the achievement of peace, to be celebrated on April 4th, said that all Angolans who love peace should continue to preserve it, as it is a common good.
For the leader, peace is the “sine qua non” condition for the development of any nation, emphasizing that, in 21 years of effective peace, it was possible to invest in Angola, always thinking about fulfilling the anxieties and aspirations of Angolans.
He added that it was possible, in that period, to expand and improve health services, the school network at all levels, build bridges and airports and create and strengthen international cooperation relations in various fields.
“The war greatly affected our country. We had several infrastructures destroyed and it was thanks to this little word “peace”, with a very big symbolism, that we were able to rebuild Angola, to make people circulate a little everywhere”, he said.
Next Tuesday, April 4, Angolans celebrate the 21st anniversary of the signing of the Peace Accords, signed in 2022, between the Government and UNITA, which gave the country the bases for peace between Angolans who fought in almost three decades.
For this reason, the 4th of April, Day of Peace and National Reconciliation, is considered one of the greatest celebrations of Angolans, as it marks the moment of the “silence of arms”
