Africa-Press – Angola. The Minister of Fisheries, Carmen do Sacramento Neto, defended this Saturday the urgent reconstruction of the Support Center for Artisanal Fishing in Ngolome, in the municipality of Cambambe (Cuanza Norte), due to its economic and social importance.
The destruction of the centre, he said, implies a double loss in economic and social aspects, with the supply of quality food products, as well as the integration of modern techniques and the formation of human capital.
Carmen do Sacramento Neto, was speaking to the press, after visiting the Ngolome community, to verify the damage caused by the large fire that completely destroyed, on Monday (March 26), the local support center for artisanal fishing.
The destruction of the centre, in addition to the loss of infrastructure and equipment, has a very negative impact on the provision of services to fishing communities, which, along with techniques for capturing and processing fish, included a unit for professional technical training in arts and craft.
The minister informed that the center was the largest in the country and had a very relevant impact on the food value chain, through good practices in the exploration of continental and artisanal waters, in the treatment, climbing and smoking of fish, as well as in the supply of jobs of work to the local community.
For the minister, the destruction of the Ngolome “energetic” defrauded the expectations of the ministry, given the importance it had for the use of continental and artisanal waters.
According to the minister, the real causes of the incident have yet to be ascertained, but, she reinforced, it is important, from now on, to think about its reconstruction, at a time when the Ministry of Fisheries is engaged in a reorganization process.
With this occurrence, according to the Minister, new feasibility studies will be elaborated, for the capture of financial resources, aimed at the progression of this initiative in several regions of the country.
The Lagoa do Ngolome Fish Processing Center was an integrated unit, inaugurated in 2015 with investment by the Angolan executive, in partnership with the United Nations Food and Agriculture Fund (FAO), which was destroyed as a result of an electrical short circuit. .
