Africa-Press – Angola. Citizens from various social strata, in Cuanza Sul province, took part this Monday, in the city of Sumbe, in a peaceful march in favor of peace, unity and national reconciliation.

Under the motto “March for peace and national stability”, during the activity the participants traveled through several arteries of the city of Sumbe, calling for the promotion of a culture of peace, the reinforcement of unity among Angolans and respect for differences.

On the occasion, the representative of the National Spontaneous Movement (MNE) in Cuanza Sul, Eugénia Neto, appealed to citizens to assume the commitment to continue working for the preservation of peace and national unity, in favor of the country’s development.

“The armed conflict left profound consequences and compromised the future of several generations, even postponing the dream of every Angolan for a better life. Therefore, all of us, as true patriots, must assume the commitment of maintaining and consolidating peace”, he stressed.

According to the official, who was speaking on behalf of the civil society organizations that promoted the march, with the achievement of peace in 2002, the country and the province of Cuanza Sul, in particular, recorded significant social and economic progress, especially in education and health sectors.

For this reason, he praised the commitment of the Head of State, João Lourenço, in solving the problems that afflict the populations, reaffirming the continuous support of civil society organizations in the province to the actions of the Executive, in favor of the well-being of the populations.

“We recognize that much remains to be done. However, we think that this effort must be joint, between the rulers and the ruled. In this regard, we urge citizens to remain vigilant and make good use of social networks, promoting the values of peace, the stability of the country, democracy and national unity, ”he added.

The municipal administrator of Sumbe, António Wenga Franco, defended the joint efforts to maintain peace and national unity, urging citizens to promote love of neighbor and tolerance, in favor of healthy social coexistence.

Promoted by the MNE, the Provincial Youth Council, the Union of Local Associations of Angola (Amangola) and the Solidarity Support Movement of Angola (Movangola), the provincial governor of Cuanza Sul, Job Capapinha, members of the Government, leaders religious, traditional authorities, civil servants, students, among other guests.

The activity ended with a music-cultural show, animated by the band Cachoeiras do Binga, as well as local and Luanda artists.

Peace in Angola resulted from the Complementary Memorandum of Understanding to the Lusaka Protocol, signed between the Angolan Government and UNITA, on April 4, 2002, in the city of Luena, Moxico province.
