Africa-Press – Angola. Six thousand 492 vulnerable families from 146 villages in the municipality of Cambundi-Catembo began to receive Monday, 51 thousand kwanzas each, referring to the second and third installments of the Social Protection Strengthening Program (Kwenda).
These are families registered under the expansion of the project, which join the thousand of the pilot phase.
The opening of the value delivery process took place in Ngando village, Dumba Cabango commune, and should last 25 days.
The director of the Local Development Institute (FAS), Gomes Golambole, said that the project currently serves 40,438 households in 17 communes and 1,105 villages in four of the province’s 14 municipalities, namely Cambundi-Catembo, Luquembo, Quirima and calandula.
He made it known that since the start of Kwenda, in 2020, two billion and 100 million kwanzas have already been disbursed, which are stimulating the economy of communities and contributing to the improvement of families’ lives.
He highlighted the ongoing community dialogue and training of families on financial education, with a view to ensuring the correct use of money.
He announced, shortly, the operationalization of the Productive Inclusion component of Kwenda, with the process of cataloging the first 600 households underway.
In turn, the municipal administrator of Cambundi-Catembo, Fátima Paulo, highlighted the importance of the initiative in improving families in vulnerable situations and defended the continuous assistance by the State to elderly and disabled people, to guarantee their livelihood.
Meanwhile, beneficiaries Sousa Viana and Mateus Ngongo, said that with the money from the second and third instalments, they will expand the cultivation areas and improve the conditions of their homes.
On a presidential initiative, the “Kwenda” Social Protection Strengthening Program will serve, in stages, one million and 608 thousand needy families in the country’s 164 municipalities, until 2023, with a global budget of US$420 million for this purpose. Americans.
Alongside monetary social transfers, the program has a component of productive inclusion, municipalization of social action and single social registration.
