Africa-Press – Angola. The Minister of Finance of Portugal, Fernando Medina, praised, this Wednesday, the Government of Angola, for the way in which over time it has been able to take care of its financial credibility.
“It is something that is very much appreciated in Portugal and recognised”, said Fernando Medina, during the signing ceremony of the Technical Cooperation Protocol for the prevention and fight against money laundering and terrorist financing, and of the financing contract for the first phase of the construction project for the infrastructures of Vila da Muxima.
Despite the difficulties, he referred that in each typical moment and each demand that is placed, Angola has always faced a spirit of always keeping “untouched” the bonds of trust in the State-to-State relationship.
“For that very reason, we take this additional step of confidence in the joint work”, said the Portuguese minister, referring to the increase of 500 million euros in the financing line to the Republic of Angola, from 1.5 billion euros to two billion.
Another word of recognition expressed by Fernando Medina is related to the way, which he considered “clear”, in which the Angolan Government defined its priorities from the point of view of what needs to be done, such as human capital, infrastructure and diversification of the economic base.
“Stating that we will do with commitment, above all with great pleasure from Portuguese companies, and even more from the Portuguese State, what we can do and that is within our reach so that the investments and projects that, in essence, will serve to the Angolan people”, he assured.
For him, the working visit was productive from the point of view of finding solutions to be able to better respond to what the governments want and to strengthen the cooperation and ties that unite the two countries.
“( …)This means working better to resolve the concerns of the populations better and faster”, he underlined, highlighting the scope of the strengthening of cooperation between the two countries.
Financing motivates companies
In turn, the Angolan finance minister, Vera Daves, referred that the additional funding of 500 million euros will motivate Portuguese companies that are interested in being part of the process of building a “new Angola”, thanking in name of the Angolan people.
In the minister’s view, the visit of the Portuguese counterpart was marked by an open dialogue. The official expressed confidence in the practical results, in terms of financial and economic cooperation between the two countries.
Within the framework of technical assistance cooperation, Vera Daves also said that Angola would “take advantage” of the experience of the Portuguese Republic in different domains, pointing to the field of public finances and taxes, and the area of combating money laundering.
“We don’t just want money, but we also want to know, and we expect to make the best use of the Ministry of Finance and other partners in Portugal”, he defended.
Angola and Portugal are countries that retain strong historical ties of cooperation that have evolved in various fields such as health, education, training, agriculture, environment, energy, water, justice, security and defence.
