Africa-Press – Angola. The Minister of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, Diamantino Azevedo, said this Wednesday that Angola intends to exchange experiences with Namibia in the exploration of uranium, looking at the legislation and regulations at the level of the Oil, Gas and other minerals sector. .
The Angolan official, on a working visit to Namibia, as part of the memorandum signed last year between the two countries and at the invitation of his counterpart, Tom Alweendo, Minister of Mines and Energy of the Republic of Namibia, also indicated that Angola also wants to harvest the experience of this southern African country in offshore diamond exploration.
“Our country has conditions for this type of investment, lacking only greater attention to regulation, since it is necessary to take into account the preservation of the environment”, he advanced.
According to minister Diamantino de Azevedo, Angola is improving and expanding its mining register, compared to other countries in the region.
In Windhoek, the Angolan minister, who heads a delegation made up of the chairmen of the Board of Directors of Endiama and Soadiam and directors of institutions linked to the sector, was received by the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Angola in Namibia, Jovelina Imperial.
Technicians from the mineral resources sector of the two countries addressed, in a meeting, issues related to the mining register in Namibia, the legislation and fiscal regime of diamond cutting factories, the exploration of offshore diamonds, the exploration of uranium in Namibia, as well as the legislation and tax regime for exploration and use of uranium.
Diamantino de Azevedo, after the briefing with ambassador Jovelina Imperial, visited Namibian companies linked to the cutting of diamonds such as NAMDIA- A Namib Desert Diamonds (Pty) Ltd, a cutting-edge diamond marketing and sales company in Namibia and MESSIKA Diamonds.
On Thursday, a ministerial meeting will take place where issues related to the Lobito Refinery, in Angola, will be discussed, such as the exploration and production of hydrocarbons in restricted areas, such as the Okavango area (Angola), business opportunities and investments in industries mining and oil, as well as combating fuel smuggling –Namibia/Angola.
