Africa-Press – Angola. 2,950 tons of various agricultural products is the amount to be received, during the current agricultural campaign, in the municipality of Belas, in Luanda, within the scope of the family farming campaign.

These data were advanced this Thursday, by the new municipal director of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, João Domingos, having said that in relation to the previous campaign, there was an increase of two percent.

He pointed out the reasons for the slight increase in production, the granting of the Development Support Fund (FADA) in the assignment of credits, as well as the greater movement after Covid-19.

In the present campaign, in the municipality of Belas, he informed that around three thousand peasant families are involved.

According to the official, despite the difficulties, the families have the support of the Agricultural Development Support Fund (FADA) in seeds and fertilizers, as well as agricultural material (knifes, hoes, axes, among other means), by the Cabinet. Areas with outstanding agricultural potential are the banks of the Kwanza and Curinge rivers, in the commune of Barra do Cuanza, and the Urban District of Quenguela, where manioc, maize, watermelon, beans, sweet potatoes, okra, eggplant, fruits (mango, cashew, papaya and banana) and vegetables (pepper and cucumber).

455 hectares are available, of which 415 are used for manual agriculture and 40 mechanized, for the family sector, while the business has 600 hectares for mechanized agriculture and 50 hectares for manual agriculture.

The agricultural field school is a space created by the peasants, which allows them to practice family agricultural development techniques, which should have the support of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Fund (FAO).

According to João Domingos, FAO contacted the sector in the municipality, as part of the process of identifying cooperatives and family production fields for the installation of these schools.

According to the official, the Agricultural Development Institute (IDA) advises that the support process for agricultural cooperatives and associations should focus on the creation of field schools, because it helps peasants to obtain skills in how to relate to banks and create conditions for the increase in production.

The municipality of Belas is made up of six urban districts, namely Kilamba (municipal seat), Morro dos Veados, Cabolombo, Quenguela, Vila Verde and Ramiros, and the commune of Barra do Cuanza.

The circumscription has an estimated population of 700,000 inhabitants, most of whom practice agriculture, fishing and commerce, representing 7.29% of the total of the province of Luanda.

The municipality is bordered by the rivers Curinge, Cuanza, the Atlantic Ocean, part of Avenida Fidel de Castro Ruz and the municipality of Belas.

The municipality has an area of ​​900 thousand 42 square kilometers.
