Africa-Press – Angola. Officials of opposition parties in Cunene province highlighted, Thursday, the need for Angolans to work more on actions aimed at preserving the gains obtained with peace, stability and national reconciliation.
Regarding the 21 years of peace and national reconciliation, marked on April 4, the politicians said that the socio-economic development of the country results from values such as hope, humility, love of neighbor, respect for laws .
For the secretary of UNITA in Cunene, Torga Pageiko, Angola is better served when its children recognize the value of peace and stability.
He said that it is not enough just to silence the guns, but there must be social peace and for that, it is essential that Angolans are united to develop the country.
The politician recognized the numerous achievements observed throughout this process in the region, with particular emphasis on the increase in the school network and the implementation of the project to combat drought, through the construction of the Cafu canal.
He said it was essential that these projects be developed with rigor and within the established deadlines, maintaining that many projects are stagnant and others with a long execution period.
He urged that the youth must preserve the peace, asserting their citizenship rights and ability to interpret the rights of others, for the enhancement of peacekeeping.
For his part, the secretary of the Social Renewal Party (PRS), Miguel Ndapewovano, said that the peacekeeping process must be permanent, stressing that from his own experience, he knows how much the peace and stability that the country lives has cost.
He said that the date is an important milestone for the Angolan people, whose conquest was thanks to the sacrifice of many compatriots who lost their lives and others were disabled, so that the conquest of peace was carried out.
For this reason, he said that it is fundamental for youth to reject behaviors that are not aimed at building a society committed to peace, stability, order and security, public and private goods.
He added that the younger generations cannot lose sight of the difficult trajectory that the country has taken to maintain itself as a sovereign State, one and indivisible.
Among the values of peace, he highlighted the free circulation of people and goods, construction of infrastructures, where education and health services were implemented in the most remote areas of the province.
“Thanks to peace, today we are witnessing the rebuilding of infrastructures destroyed in times of armed conflict. We have schools and health posts with teachers and nurses in areas such as Okalwa, Hoiode, Kafima, Ondova, Chiedi, Milungo ya Shikongo, which was once impossible”, he explained.
Peace in Angola resulted from the Complementary Memorandum of Understanding to the Lusaka Protocol, signed between the Angolan Government and UNITA, on April 4, 2002, in the city of Luena, Moxico province.
