Africa-Press – Angola. A delegation of diplomats from European Union (EU) member countries are in the city of Cabinda, since this Thursday, with the aim of finding out about the socio-economic and political development of the region.
Led by ambassador Jeannette Seppen, head of the European Union mission in Angola, the delegation held, this morning, at the local Palace, a meeting with the deputy governor of Cabinda for the Political and Social Sector, Miguel dos Santos Oliveira.
From the local official, they received information about the economic potential and the ongoing structural projects, with emphasis on the Caio Port Terminal of Porto de Cabinda and the local Refinery.
On the occasion, Miguel dos Santos Oliveira welcomed the delegation, having highlighted the political stability that has allowed good levels of growth in the various sectors of socio-economic and political life, with emphasis on agriculture, fisheries, health, energy and water. .
In her turn, diplomat Jeannete Seppen referred that the trip to the city of Cabinda takes place within the framework of the annual activities of this mission in Angola, which defines a province each year for the purpose, in order to verify its socio-economic and political development.
“This year we came to Cabinda to also, like other provinces where we have already visited, such as Huíla and Cunene, find out how their development is going, learn about the potential in the various economic, social and tourist areas and also hold meetings with civil society and opposition parties represented in the region,” he said.
He said, therefore, that it was the responsibility of diplomats to get to know other parts of Angola. “We are in Cabinda, where we are going to learn about the successes and challenges that we all face”.
For two days, ambassadors and ministers from the diplomatic representations of Belgium, Spain, France, Hungary, Portugal, Poland, Romania and Finland will visit the Caio Port Terminal in Porto de Cabinda.
On the last day of their stay in the region, Friday (21st), the delegation will travel to the tourist municipality of Cacongo, which is about 46 km north of the city of Cabinda.
At the beginning of March this year, Jeannete Seppen was in Cabinda where she announced the holding, in May this year, in the city of Benguela, of a Business Forum with the aim of encouraging investment by European companies and entrepreneurs in Angola.
The European Union and Angola have a strong partnership in the fields of economy, politics and cooperation, which has attracted more European companies and entrepreneurs to invest in Angola.
In Cabinda, the EU has supported the Word Vision project and the Social Center of the Salesianos Dom Bosco.
