Africa-Press – Angola. A cache containing 45 degraded explosive devices was found this Saturday in the Mandembie neighborhood, on the outskirts of the city of Luena, in the province of Moxico.

The cache is made up of thirty-two 60mm mines, nine UG7 charges and four mine refills.

The cache was found in the backyard of a residence during an excavation to dispose of solid waste.

In statements to the press, the commander of the Engineering Platoon of the Eastern Military Region Command of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA), Second Lieutenant Fernando Cassule, suggested that the war material was left behind during the military conflicts in the country, given its state of degradation.

The owner of the yard, Florinda Sozinho, said that she has lived in the residence for over 10 years and never suspected the existence of war material there.

The Mandembue neighborhood is located north of the city of Luena, between the domestic airport Commander Dangereux and the Luena railway station. It is one of the most populated areas of the capital of the province of Moxico.
