Africa-Press – Angola. At least 1,400 vulnerable families in the Ngolome neighbourhood, Bom Jesus commune, in the municipality of Icolo e Bengo received Monday, basic food baskets to minimize their needs.
In addition to basic food baskets, the population also benefited from personal hygiene material, a donation from the MPLA Political Bureau secretariat.
The locality that houses citizens removed from the perimeter of the new International Airport, on the outskirts of Icolo and Bengo, lacks almost everything, with greater emphasis on housing, as they live in sheet metal houses, lack of electricity, health and means of transport.
On the occasion, the secretary of the Political Bureau of the MPLA for Administration and Finance, Carla Ribeiro de Sousa, said that the party is in solidarity with the difficulties of the population in Ngolome, especially at that time when there is a lot of rain.
According to the official, with this gesture her party intends to alleviate the lack of life of these residents and maintain a closer and more affectionate relationship.
In turn, Luís Henriques, a resident of the Ngolome neighbourhood, thanked the gesture and appealed to the authorities for the need for drinking water, electricity and land for self-directed construction.
In turn, the municipal administrator of Icolo e Bengo, Nelson Funete, said that, to facilitate the mobility of residents, they should be relocated closer to the main road (EN230).
“We are working with the Provincial Government and the Ministry of Transport in order to accommodate these families, as quickly as possible, in a place with better living conditions”, reinforced the administrator.
The Ngolome neighbourhood, about 25 kilometers from the village of Catete, seat of Icolo and Bengo, has an estimated population of 3,000 inhabitants, mostly peasants displaced a year and three months ago from the perimeter of the new airport.
