Africa-Press – Angola. The deputy governor for the Political, Economic and Social area of Namibe, Anica de Sousa, said this Monday that the eradication of child labor must involve the whole of society, so that children can grow up in a healthy and harmonious environment.

Speaking at a round table on the subject, the official said that only through joint action, involving the government and civil society, especially families, will it be possible to put an end to this evil.

In his understanding, society can no longer tolerate the perpetuation of these actions that are harmful to children, leaving many of them abandoned.

“By facing these issues boldly and decisively, we are paving the way to a better future where all children are respected, protected and given the opportunity to reach their full potential,” he said.

He recognized that this reality is often fueled by lack of basic resources, access to quality education, social inequality and lack of opportunity for families.

“However, we cannot allow these factors to be excuses for maintaining the cycle of child labor”, he said.

For his part, Father Abel Calanja, who addressed the theme “social reintegration of children involved in child labor”, pointed out family breakdown as also being at the root of this problem.

In her view, alcohol, drugs and prostitution have taken over from families, and as a consequence, there is the abandonment of children, who end up on the street.

Members of the government, civil society, deputies, traditional authorities, children, parents and guardians participated in the meeting.
