Africa-Press – Angola. Blood therapy at the General Hospital of Ondjiva, in Cunene, needs two thousand regular voluntary blood donors per year, to satisfy the demand for the liquid.

Currently, hemotherapy controls 120 volunteer donors associated with the Provincial Youth Council (CPJ), JMPLA and some churches based in the city of Ondjiva.

Regarding the 14th of June, World Blood Donor Day, the head of Hemotherapy, Emília Vasconcelos, said that the number of requests is greater than the supply.

He informed that blood transfusions at the general hospital of Ondjiva are carried out daily at an average of 10 to 15, hence the need for the availability of two thousand donors per year, to respond to the demand.

He made it known that in emergency cases, family donors are always requested, but they are not always available to give blood, which ends up creating some constraints.

Emília Vasconcelos said that stock has little reserve, which is why she appealed to churches and youth organizations to feel mobilized and embrace the solidarity gesture.

Reinforced hemotherapy with bags

As part of World Blood Donor Day, 25 young people from the Igreja Peniel Internacional Reino da Graça in Cunene donated 18 units of 400 milliliters of blood to the General Hospital of Ondjiva.

Between the months of January and May of this year, 560 blood transfusions were performed in Ondjiva’s hemotherapy unit.
