Africa-Press – Angola. One hundred and thirty-eight (138) diamond stones of different carats were seized Thursday, in the municipalities of Chitato and Capenda Camulemba, Lunda Norte province, by the Criminal Investigation Service.

The information was provided this Friday by the Communication and Image technician of the Provincial Command of the National Police, Alexandre Pereira, stressing that the seizure resulted from a micro-operation aimed at combating diamond mining.

He said that during the operation, one million and 530 thousand kwanzas were seized in the possession of the presumed “garimpeiros”.

He stressed that in the same operation, 800 liters of fuel were also seized for smuggling, as well as the attempt to illegally enter 561 immigrants from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in national territory.

The official made it known that the intention of the immigrants was to settle in diamond exploration areas and reach the country’s capital, Luanda, adding that they were forced to return immediately to their country of origin.

On the other hand, he made it known that the diamonds, the monetary values ​​were handed over to the Commission for the Listing of the “Operation Transparency” and to the General Tax Administration as faithful depositories.
