Africa-Press – Angola. The management of Wiliete Sport Clube de Benguela presented, Friday, the 2nd edition of the Friendship Tournament in football, taking place in this city, from 5 to 14 August, with the participation of eight clubs.
These are the teams from 1.o de Agosto, Kabuscorp do Palanca, Sagrada Esperança, Desportivo da Lunda Sul, Académica do Lobito, FC Bravos do Maquis, Recreativo do Libolo and the hostess Wiliete.
Speaking at the tournament’s launch ceremony, the vice-president of the organizing club, Victorino Vissele, competition coordinator, regretted the absence of Interclube, as it was the champion of the first edition.
He explained that the tournament will be disputed initially by two groups of four teams each, who will play in the system all against all.
“The first two qualify for the next stage”, he said, with the final scheduled for the 14th of August.
In this edition, he added, each team will be able to use 25 players and eight substitutions per game will be allowed.
“The objective of this competition is not essentially to reach the trophy, but to give competitiveness to the teams that will be engaged in Girabola”, he referred.
He made it known that the Friendship tournament also aims to strengthen relations between sports associations and embrace social causes.
The official informed that the opening ceremony will take place at the National Stadium in Ombaka, starting at 1 pm.
Victorino Vissele explained that the tournament will comply with all safety and technical requirements, so the National Police, INEMA and the Red Cross will be involved.
As for transport, they have the support of the Benguela Railway.
The tournament takes place at a time when the teams are preparing for the start of the first division National Championship, Girabola 2023/2024.
The Wiliete de Benguela team finished fourth in the last edition of this event, with 53 points, a test won by Petro de Luanda.
