The director general of the National Statistics Institute (INE), José Calenji, this Saturday considered positive the work carried out by field agents, inherent in the identification of special cases in the census zones in the seven provinces covered by the Pilot Census, namely Bengo, Bié, Cuando Cubango, Cunene, Luanda, Lunda Norte and Uíge.

José Calenji made this point at the end of his two-day visit to evaluate the ongoing activities of the Pilot Census, which takes place from July 19 to the present date in the municipality of Cuangar, 490 kilometers south of the city of Menongue, capital of Cuando Cubango , which will contribute to the success of the process.

The general coordinator of the technical group of the Multisectoral Commission for the Pilot Census assured that the indicators obtained will contribute to the process of population and housing revival, which starts next Monday (7th) of this month, in the seven selected provinces.

The official reiterated that the success of the process will largely depend on the collaboration of the population covered in the municipalities selected in this first phase, which is expected to welcome the agents, providing real information, for the success of the General Population Census to take place in 2024 in the country.

The director explained that the special data collection process covered areas such as military units, police, penitentiary services, homeless citizens, hospitals, among other institutions identified and catalogued, the results of which will be released shortly.

José Calenji admitted not registering, until now, any anomaly in the cases of collection of special data, due to the full fulfillment of requirements concerning identification, cataloging and requesting consent for the collection of information to related institutions.

After Cuando Cubango, the members of the Technical Group will go to Cunene province next week.

The municipality of Cuito Cuanavale, which is about 189 kilometers from the city of Menongue, capital of Cuando Cubango, has 19 census zones, one urban and 18 rural. It will count on the intervention of 21 field agents, three local technical assistants and two informatics assistants, one municipal assistant and an equal number of communal assistants.

Cuangar, which is 450 kilometers from the capital city of Cuando Cubango, has 17 census zones, 13 of which are rural and four urban, with 19 agents, three local technical assistants and two computer science assistants, one municipal assistant and an equal number of communal assistants. .

The province of Cuando Cubango, the second largest in the country, with more than 199 thousand square kilometers, has close to 535 thousand and 838 inhabitants, according to the 2014 census, with a projection, for 2023, of 697 thousand and 397 inhabitants .
