Africa-Press – Angola. The Development Bank of Angola (BDA) has already financed 88 projects in Bié province, which consumed over two billion kwanzas, confirmed friday, in the city of Cuito, Bié province, the adviser of this institution, António Sozinho.

The official was speaking at the 1st International Conference on Cereals and Grains in Angola, promoted by Grupo Agreement, in partnership with the Government of Bié, within the scope of the 4th Edition of the Provincial Potato and Corn Fair, opened Thursday, in the Biena capital.

Speaking on the theme “Financing from the BDA to PLANAGRÃOS”, António Sozinho underlined that the projects, within the scope of the PAC, PRODESI and Economic Relief, are implemented in the nine municipalities of this central/southern region of the country.

The advisor also added that the bank has financing of 2.850 million kwanzas available for the public and business/agriculture sector, for a period of five years, within the scope of the National Plan for Grains, recently approved by the Executive.

Of this amount, 1.78 million kwanzas will be for the public sector, specifically in the implementation of infrastructures, such as roads, energy, water, among others.

The rest of the money can be channeled into PLANAGRÃOS, with emphasis on the priority given to the cultivation of wheat, rice, corn and soy, with goals of reaching six million tons throughout the country.

With a 15-year amortization period and interest rates of 3 percent for family farmers and 7 percent for business/producers, the amount is also focused on building infrastructure, grain processing units, input manufacturing units , machinery and equipment, services and commerce.

The 1st International Conference on Cereals and Grains in Angola will address topics such as “retrospective of agriculture-cereal production before Independence, post and current, “importance of cereals and grains for combating poverty and food security”, “reflection on the seals made in Angola”.

There are also subjects related to “innovations, trends and new technologies in the production of cereals and grains”, “realities, opportunities and challenges of investment in the production of cereals and grains in Angola”, resilient family farming: adaptation to climate change in the sustainable production of cereals and grains”.

Other topics are “the role of research institutes, their contribution to increasing the production of cereals and grains” and the role of the Guarantee and Credit Fund in the national economy”.

The event features national and international speakers such as the director of the Institute of Agricultural Research, João Ferreira, director of the National Institute of Cereals in Angola, Maria Garção, the administrator of the BDA, Arsénio Satyohamba, the Angolan researcher André Sinela, the North American Waka Waka and the head of the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation “Embrapa”, Lauro Moreira.

Participating in the event, among various personalities, are the governor of Huambo, Lotti Nolika, deputy governors, municipal administrators, national and foreign producers, businessmen from different provinces of the country and national directors of different ministerial departments.
