President of the Republic visits Feira do Campo de Malanje

Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, visited Thursday, the Feira do Campo de Malanje 2023, where the agricultural potential of the province’s 14 municipalities is on display.

For around an hour, the Head of State received detailed information on the level of production in the municipalities, including the main actors in the region’s agricultural sector, with emphasis on UNICANDA (largest corn producer in the country) and the PIPE farm, turned to the production of corn, beans and soybeans.

João Lourenço also found out about the progress of the process of resuming cotton production in the municipality of Cunda-dia-Base, in a bet by the company IEP ALCAAL, owner of TEXTANG II, which in the 2022/2023 agricultural campaign produced 207 tons of the product, in an area of ​​69 hectares.

In the last agricultural campaign, the project to reactivate cotton production involved 83 families.

For the 2023/2024 agricultural year, the company IEP ALCAAL plans to expand the production area from 69 to 150 hectares, 100 in the municipality of Cunda-Dia-Base and 50 in Cahombo, in the latter on an experimental basis, with a harvest expected of 405 tons.

On the other hand, the President of the Republic was in contact with the level of rice production of the company Planeta Verde, in the municipality of Luquembo, which in its first year of cultivation (2022) harvested 1,500 tons on 156 hectares.

With the season about to begin, the project’s goal is to reach 400 hectares and a forecast of three thousand tons.

Scheduled to end on Sunday (10), the Feira do Campo de Malanje will feature 38 exhibitors.

The President of the Republic, who completed his second and last day of work in the province of Malanje chaired a meeting with the local Government.

Following his visit to Malanje, the Head of State visited Wednesday, in the municipality of Causo, the Quizenga Lutete Farm and the Bioenergy Company (BIOCOM).
