The first secretary of the MPLA in Bié, Pereira Alfredo, considered that his party has a historic responsibility to continue transmitting, among the militants and population in general, the life and work of Agostinho Neto, with a view to serving as a example for future generations.
The political leader was speaking during the Round Table on the Life and Work of the First President of Angola, António Agostinho Neto, promoted this Friday, in the city of Cuito, by the MPLA Provincial Committee.
“Agostinho Neto represents the history of the MPLA. It was with this party that he proclaimed the Independence of Angola, becoming the first President of the Republic. Therefore, it is more than clear that the MPLA, more than anyone else, has these responsibilities to transmit its achievements”, he highlighted.
Pereira Alfredo said that Neto’s teachings, if well studied and used, can contribute to revitalizing the ideas and attitudes of activists and beyond, for the common good, especially the preservation of peace and national unity.
For you, many of Agostinho Neto’s phrases, such as “the most important thing is to solve the people’s problems”, “the freedom of your people is priceless”, among others, should be well transmitted to youth, aiming to reinforce the value chain patriotic.
The provincial first secretary is of the opinion that the story of the national hero should not only be told, but also serve as a source of consultation, to draw examples of bravery, determination and courage from a son of Angola who gave himself to help his people to free themselves from the colonial yoke.
During the round table, two themes were presented, namely “The contribution of Dr. António Agostinho Neto in the history of the MPLA and the country” and “The role of the MPLA as a national liberation movement in the fight for national independence”.
During the debates, participants reaffirmed the importance of disseminating the foundations of the national hero in the party’s base organizations, as well as educational institutions, in order to instill patriotism, with the aim of continuing to safeguard the interests of the Nation.
Similar activity was carried out at the level of the nine municipalities in the province of Bié.
The province of Bié hosts the central event of National Hero’s Day (17 September), to be celebrated under the motto “Together for the Development of Angola”, whose event will be presided over by the Minister of Territorial Administration, Dionísio Manuel da Fonseca.
António Agostinho Neto was born in Icolo e Bengo, on September 17, 1922. He died in Moscow on September 10, 1979.
He was an Angolan doctor, writer and politician. In 1975 he proclaimed National Independence and became the first President of Angola until 1979.
