President João Lourenço Emphasizes Youth'S Role in Society

Africa-Press – Angola. President João Lourenço emphasized on Tuesday the important role of Angolan youth in society, highlighting their responsibility to perpetuate and reinforce the achievements of past generations.

The Head of State emphasized this in a message for Angolan Youth Day, celebrated on 14 April, marking an “increasingly consolidated future of peace, democracy and development”.

The President’s message celebrated all young people who dedicate their knowledge, dynamism and perseverance to building a modern, peaceful country with solid, functional institutions that are economically sustainable and open to the world, in the various civil and military fronts of Angolan society.

The message also highlights that it has always been the young people who, “in the audacity and generosity typical of their age”, first opposed and then destroyed all the obstacles and forms of repression that the colonial system imposed on the Angolan people.

“They were also the first to resist on the front lines against invasions and aggressions from abroad, thus guaranteeing national unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity,” the President said.

According to the note, ‘Today, the reality is different but no less challenging. Technological advancement requires adaptation to increasingly sophisticated organizational structures, and our youth must keep up with progress to avoid being overtaken by global competition in all areas of human knowledge.

The president also stated in the message that ‘the current international situation, marked by localized conflicts and an open war between the great powers for economic, military and political supremacy, obliges our youth to be vigilant and to avoid all attempts to undermine our sovereignty and interfere in our internal affairs’.

To conclude, he says: “On this Angolan Youth Day, I would like to wish all the young people of Angola, from Cabinda to Cunene and from the coast to the east, a bright future.”
