CFM prepares special train to transport agricultural production

Africa-Press – Angola. By the end of this year, the Moçâmedes Railway (CFM) will launch a special service called the Regional Train, to transport agricultural production in the provinces along its route, namely Huíla, Namibe and Cuando Cubango.

It currently has seven weekly frequencies of mixed trains, between Huíla and Cuando Cubango, as well as an exclusive schedule for the transport of ornamental rocks from Lubango to Porto do Namibe.

Speaking to Rádio Huíla, from the RNA group, CFM’s commercial director, Carlos Roll, said that the new service will have a daily frequency and technical work is underway to implement it.

In the first phase, according to the economist, priority goes to the Matala/Tchamutete (Jamba), Matala/Lubango and Matala/Menongue route, considering it an action that seeks to facilitate production reaching the markets.

CFM’s strategy, according to him, involves placing a specific wagon at the main stations that register a greater volume of goods to accommodate the cargo and as soon as it is full it is immediately towed to the large markets.

He pointed out that there is a reinforcement of related material, so that this process is faster and can be operational before the end of the year.

From Moçâmedes to Menongue, on a route of 746 kilometers, CFM has seven weekly frequencies, in addition to operating on the Lubango suburban circuit, with trips every one hour, transporting around 300 thousand passengers/month.

Data revealed in August at the Ministry of Transport meeting on the Southern Corridor indicate that in the first half of this year the CFM transported 100 thousand tons of cargo, mainly granite.
