Africa-Press – Angola. In a rehearsal week for the “Girabola2023-24” National Football Championship, which still has no start date, the sport stood out for its diplomacy with the signing of cooperation agreements between Angola and Serbia.

Scheduled for the 15th, the biggest national event in the sport was postponed “sine die” by the respective federation due to a legal process in which Petro de Luanda, Kabuscorp do Palanca and Académica do Lobito are implicated.

Meanwhile, the teams involved overcome the absence of the competition with friendly matches, so that the pre-season work does not constitute a waste of time and money spent needlessly.

1.o de Agosto trained and lost, on Saturday, against Kabuscorp do Palanca, 1-2, in a game played at the França Ndalu stadium. Before, on Friday, Interclube beat Gilson FC, 4-0, on June 22nd.

Santa Rita de Cássia and Clube Recreativo União de Malanje drew 1-1 on Saturday at the municipal 4 de Janeiro, while Petro Atlético beat Wiliete de Benguela 2-0 this Sunday at the Ombaka national stadium.

Without “serious” football, diplomacy ended up dominating the sports week with the signing of agreements with Serbia in areas of need for Angolan sport.

Indeed, technology, the fight against doping, inclusion sport, sponsorship, medicine, training of specialists, gender promotion, sport in basic schools and universities need to be leveraged for a sport that is more supported by science.

The event, held in Belgrade, had as signatories the Minister of Youth and Sports of Angola, Palmira Barbosa, and her Serbian counterpart, Husseyn Memitchi.

In terms of football, the team dropped one place in the FIFA Ranking. It went from 116th position, with 1169 points, to 117th, with 1167 pts.

The national women’s cadet handball combined finished in fourth place in the African Nations Championship, which ended in Monastir (Tunisia).

In the match for third place, Saturday, Angola lost to Nigeria, 24-28, missing the podium as was the objective, after victories in 2009, 2011 and 2013. In the previous edition, it was runner-up.

Even so, Angola qualified for the World Cup in 2024, taking place in China, between the months of July and August, as did the three teams on the podium, Egypt (1st place), Guinea 2nd) and Nigeria (3rd). .

In chess, International Master (MI) Amorim Agnelo, from 1.o de Agosto, won the absolute National Championship, becoming four-time champion, after victories in 1997, 2002 and 2010.

For women, the trophy went to Ednazia Júnior, from Escola Macovi. The 21-year-old chess player thus won her second absolute national title, after having done so in 2021.

In futsal. The province of Huíla hosted the men’s and women’s national championships, with the conquest, respectively, of the Clínica Sacred Esperança de Luanda and 4 de Junho do Huambo.
